Please only apply for the below grant if you have been verified as a beneficiary of the Baily Thomas Provident Fund and that covers employees, spouses and children
Lasting Power of Attorney
Planning for the future is one of the most important steps you can take to protect yourself and your loved ones. A lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) ensures that, should you ever be unable to make decisions for yourself, someone you trust can step in to support you.
The Baily Thomas Provident Fund (BTPF) is pleased to offer a grant to help make this process more accessible and to support you in putting arrangements in place.
Lasting Power of Attorney Grant (LPA)
The LPA Grant is available to help with the cost of setting up and registering both a Financial LPA and a Health and Welfare LPA.
The grant is available to former employees, their spouse/partner and dependent children aged 18 and over.
What the Grant Covers
The Trustees may award:
-
Up to £500 per LPA to help cover solicitor fees, including advice and preparation
-
An additional £92 per LPA to cover registration fees with the Office of the Public Guardian
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the grant:
-
Your LPA must be prepared and registered by a qualified solicitor from a firm regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA)
-
DIY LPAs, online templates or LPAs prepared by non-regulated providers are not eligible
How to Apply
To apply, you will need to:
-
Complete the application form in full
-
Provide a written quotation from your chosen solicitor, on headed paper, clearly showing their SRA registration number
The quickest and easiest way to apply is via our online portal: Home - Baily Thomas Provident
Alternatively, hard copy application forms can be downloaded here or requested from the BTPF office.
Payment Details
The grant is awarded on a once-in-a-lifetime basis.
If your application is approved, payment will usually be reimbursed upon submission of:
-
A valid invoice
-
Proof of payment (such as a bank statement showing the transaction)
In some cases, we may be able to pay your solicitor directly. If you would prefer this option, please confirm it with your solicitor in advance.
Please note: the invoice must be made out in your name, as the agreement for the LPA is between you and your solicitor.
Important information:
Please ensure your grant is approved before incurring any costs.
The trustees are unlikely to fund retrospective claims unless there were exceptional circumstances where it was not reasonably possible to apply in advance.
All grants are awarded at the discretion of the trustees, who will consider each application based on the information provided.
Supporting you Further: Will Writing Grant
In addition to an LPA, you may also wish to consider putting a Will in place. A will writing grant is available to former employees and their spouse/partner to help with the cost of preparing a will. The trustees may fund:
-
Up to £400 per individual beneficiary (where one beneficiary is preparing a Will)
-
Up to £600 per household (where both the former employee and their spouse/partner are preparing Wills at the same time)
